As everyone knows, complete Mississippian trilobites are quite rare. This trilobite is a very scarce specimen of Comptonaspis swallowi from the Mississippian of Missouri. This genus has a very smooth carapace - almost totally devoid of any ornamentation. This outstretched trilobite is extremely inflated and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The bug has great color and contrast and is well positioned on the natural plate of matrix that also contains a few crinoid fragments and some echinoid spines. This is a fine specimen of this highly collectible Carboniferous trilobite.
