This is an excellent specimen of a stalk-eyed Russian trilobite. This is a large Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Middle Ordovician. These trilobites are among the favorites of collectors all over the world because of the long stalked eyes. The cephalon of this trilobite is slightly tucked downward and the free-standing eyes extend far ahead of the bug. The well-preserved trilobite is quite 3-dimensional and is wonderfully articulated. The caramel-colored exoskeleton of the trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is beautifully centered on the large, sculpted plate of limestone. This is an extremely striking specimen of this long-eyed Asaphus trilobite.
