Here is a very interesting European trilobite. This is Colpocoryphe rouaulti from the Ordovician of Portugal. This ancient arthropod is complete and wonderfully articulated. It is somewhat distorted (but in a very pleasing manner, we think) due to metamorphism of the strata in which the trilobite was found. The bug is actually wider than it is long! The multi-colored matrix immediately surrounding the trilobite has been painstakingly prepared with hand tools to afford great contrast between the fossil and the metamorphic rock. The trilobite has great color and is almost perfectly centered on the large, rectangular block. Many times, the trilobites from this area are on very small pieces of matrix and not very "showy". This is a very displayable example of Colpocoryphe from Portugal.
