This is an exotic trilobite from an old collection. It is a Sphaerocoryphe thompsoni from the Ordovician of Scotland. This type of trilobite has a glabella that is expanded into a huge, round ball. The pleurons extend into sharp spines and the pygidium exhibits two long spines. This specimen shows these features in wonderful fashion. The trilobite is slightly contraflexed and nicely articulated. The fossil has very nice color and contrast and is well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a highly collectible trilobite from one of the most famous fossil sites in Scotland that is now closed to collecting.
