This is a very interesting trilobite. It is a nice specimen of Placoparia tournemini from the Ordovician of Portugal. Many times, the trilobites from these layers are terribly distorted due to the metamorphism of the strata in which they are found. This trilobite shows only a slight amount of lateral compression. The bug is extremely prone and wonderfully articulated. The yellowish color of the trilobite contrasts beautifully with the gray matrix. The trilobite is well presented on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a very attractive example of this European trilobite.
