Here is a nice US trilobite. This is Calymene breviceps from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This trilobite is very 3-dimensional and almost perfectly prone. The free cheeks are present, which is quite unusual. The chocolate brown trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light gray matrix. The ancient arthropod is well centered on the large plate of shale that contains many echinoderm fragments. This is a very attractive specimen of Calymene breviceps from this closed location.
