This is a large Asaphid trilobite. It is a complete Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. This specimen is huge - almost 5 inches long. The bug is extremely inflated and wonderfully articulated. The large, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are quite distinct. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the large, natural plate of limestone that also contains a specimen of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. The cystoid displays the crystalline structure in fine fashion. This is a very displayable specimen of this classic Asaphid trilobite. We have seen very few Russian Asaphids this large and this nice.
