Here is a very attractive Lower Cambrian trilobite. This is Olenellus gilberti from Nevada. This trilobite is well articulated and exhibits fine detail. The crescent-shaped eyes are easily seen and the sweeping genal spines are beautifully displayed. The long pleural spines are intact and clearly defined - even a portion of the "tail spine" is quite evident. The bug has outstanding color. The dark brown exoskeleton of the trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the somewhat rounded plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic spiny trilobite from the Pioche Formation.
