Here is a nice example of Illaenus schmidti from the Ordovician of Russia. This extremely inflated trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits fine detail. The huge, bulbous glabella is beautifully displayed. The small, widely-spaced eyes are easily seen and the pointed genal areas are quite evident. The caramel-colored bug contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the natural plate of limestone that also contains a partial specimen of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. This cystoid is hollow and lined with sparkling calcite crystals. This is a very attractive specimen of Illaenus schmidti from the Wolchow River in Russia.
