Here is a fine specimen of Asaphus raniceps from the Lower Ordovician of Russia. This unusual species of trilobite has very small eyes and a more triangular cephalon than most of the Middle Ordovician Asaphids. This bug is quite inflated and well articulated. The caramel-colored arthropod contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is beautifully displayed in an outstretched position and wonderfully centered on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a very good example of this uncommon Asaphid trilobite from Russia.
