This is a very collectible specimen of Illaenus tauricornis from the Ordovician of Russia. Most Illaenus have rounded genal angles, and do not have genal spines. This species has long, hook-like genal spines on each side. This specimen showcases these spines beautifully. This trilobite is wonderfully outstretched which is quite unusual. Most Illaenus have the cephalon preserved in a ''tucked'' position. This 3-dimensional trilobite is well articulated and exhibits fine detail. The natural caramel color of the bug is quite striking and contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is almost perfectly centered on the sculpted plate of limestone that also contains a large example of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. This is an extremely displayable specimen of this Illaenus with the curving genal spines.
