This is a rare trilobite. It is a Pseudobasilicus lawrowi from the Wolchow River area of St. Petersburg, Russia. This specimen has a unique look to it - a very round cephalon and pygidium, and thoracic segments that flare towards the rear of the trilobite. This wonderfully prone specimen is well-preserved and exhibits fine detail. The extremely small, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the thin genal spines are quite distinct. The caramel-colored bug contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. It is well presented on the sculpted plate of limestone that also contains a nice specimen of Echinosphaerites sp., a very robust cystoid. This is a striking specimen of this uncommon Asaphid trilobite from the Ordovician.
