This is a bizarre spiny trilobite. It is a Kingaspis sp. from Morocco. This specimen was prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab, as are ALL of our Moroccan trilobites. This is one of the only trilobites we know of that has forward pointing spines. Instead of a defensive feature, these spines may have been used for attack! This type is often ''created'' by the Moroccan handycrafters, adding fake spines to make more common types of trilobites look like this rare type. This specimen is complete with both spines intact (spine off of the head is hard to see in the photo). And, yes, THE SPINES ARE REAL! They have been prepared free-standing for maximum display. And, remember, this is a CAMBRIAN trilobite, not Devonian like most spiny Moroccan trilobites. This is one of the few REAL Kingaspis trilobites you will ever see. It is one of the rarest and most collectible trilobites found in Morocco.
