Here is a great example of an unusual trilobite from British Columbia. This is a complete Wanneria sp. from the Lower Cambrian. This is not the more common Olenellus which is also found at this site. This trilobite is outstretched and wonderfully articulated. The genal spines are nicely displayed and every sweeping pleuron tip is intact. Even the pygidial spine is present. This ancient arthropod even shows remnants of the alimentary canal running from the cephalon to the tip of the pygidium. This is a highly unusual preservational feature in the trilobite record. The trilobite is nicely positioned near the center of a large (4.2" X 5.0"), rectangular plate of matrix that also contains several Olenellus cephalons. The counterpart of the trilobite is also present although not pictured. This is a very detailed specimen of this collectable trilobite from the Lower Cambrian.
