Here is a very fine Asteropyge sp. from the Devonian of Morocco. This arched trilobite has been meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS prep lab in Walsenburg, Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are easily seen. The free-standing genal spines are beautifully displayed and the pointed lappets of the pygidium are clearly defined. The dark, chocolate-brown trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-brown matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered, in high relief, on the large, natural block of limestone. This is a very attractive example of Asteropyge from the Atlas Mountains.
