Here is an unusual US trilobite. This is a LARGE specimen of Anataphrus vigilans from the Ordovician of Iowa. The trilobite is almost perfectly prone, which is extremely unusual - almost all specimens of this type are found enrolled. The trilobite is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The eyes are easily seen protruding above the smooth carapace. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the buff-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the natural block of limestone. This is a very displayable example of Anataphrus vigilans from Iowa.
