Here is a great example of Isotelus gigas from the Ordovician of Canada. This type of Isotelus has a very triangular cephalon and pygidium and no genal spines. This species is much rarer than Isotelus mafritzi. This large specimen is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits hardly any crushing of the exoskeleton. This specimen is probably the most inflated example of this trilobite that we have ever seen. It is almost perfectly prone and wonderfully articulated. The thick, brownish-black exoskeleton is very nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The protruding eyes are quite elevated above the sleek carapace. The trilobite contrasts well with the gray matrix and is nicely presented on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very collectable example of this uncommon species of Isotelus.
