Here is an exceptional specimen of Asaphiscus wheeleri from the Cambrian of Utah. This large (two inches) trilobite is complete and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached, which is somewhat unusual for this particular genus. The thick, black-shelled exoskeleton of the trilobite is extremely well preserved. A small meraspid stage trilobite is firmly attached near the right eye of the large Asaphiscus. A portion of the tannish-gray matrix has been left on the backside of the specimen for added stability. This is a great example of Asaphiscus wheeleri from the Wheeler Formation.
