Here is a very aesthetic specimen of Illaenus sp. from the Ordovician of Russia. This type has relatively small eyes and rounded genal areas. The trilobite is extremely 3-dimensional and nicely articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The bug has wonderful, thick exoskeleton and exhibits fine detail. The large, inflated glabella and the small, crescent-shaped eyes are easily seen. The rich, caramel-brown color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The slightly arched trilobite displays beautifully on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very appealing Illaenus from the Ordovician of Russia.
