Here is an extremely unusual specimen of Chotecops sp. from the Devonian of Germany. This piece is from the famous Bundenbach slate. The quarries that produced this roofing slate are now closed. The only way to obtain specimens from this area is through the dispersal of old collections. This is one of those specimens. There are two nice examples of Chotecops on this plate - one is outstretched and one is enrolled. It is highly unusual to find two of these trilobites so closely together, as the individual fossils from this site are quite uncommon. The trilobites are nicely articulated and somewhat inflated. In fact, the pygidium of the enrolled specimen is easily seen on the back side of the plate. The trilobites have very good detail - the individual lenses of the compound eyes are quite evident. The trilobites are beautifully positioned on the large, semi-rectangular plate of slate. This is a very collectable specimen of Chotecops from Bundenbach, Germany
