Here is a very nice example of Calymene breviceps from the Silurian of Indiana. This trilobite was collected many years ago and just now prepared. The site that produced this specimen is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This trilobite is almost perfectly prone and well articulated. Both free cheeks are present which is highly unusual. This "thick-shelled" bug is very inflated and exhibits fine detail. The natural, dark brown trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light gray matrix. It is well positioned on the plate of shale. An extremely 3-dimensional colonial coral, Favosites sp., is also present. This is a very interesting specimen of two different organisms from the Silurian sea.
