Here is a very interesting plate with two different genera of trilobites. This specimen is from the Ordovician of Russia. On the left side of the slab is a fine example of Illaenus sp. This type of trilobite has a large, bulbous cephalon that is almost totally devoid of ornamentation. It has small, widely-spaced eyes and a very smooth, rounded pygidium. On the right side of the slab is a large specimen of Asaphus (Neoasaphus) cornutus. This type has a more triangular cephalon and pygidium and large, somewhat stalked eyes. Both bugs are extremely 3-dimensional and nicely articulated. The fossils have great color and contrast. They are well presented on the natural plate of limestone. This is a fine slab of two different trilobites from Russia.
