Here is an unusual Canadian trilobite. This is Nanillaenus latiaxiatus from the Ordovician. This type has a large, smooth cephalon and pygidium. The arched trilobite is very 3-dimensional and nicely articulated. The small eyes are easily seen and the individual thoracic segments are well defined. The blackish color of the thick exoskeleton contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The bug is beautifully perched on the natural limestone block that has been sawed flat on the bottom for optimal display. This is a very nice example of this elusive trilobite from Canada.
