Here is a very aesthetic plate of trilobites from the Ordovician of Russia. There are two different bugs on the slab - both trilobites are extremely well preserved. The trilobite on the left side of the plate is an excellent example of Illaenus schmidti. This trilobite is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. The large, bulbous cephalon is easily seen. The widely-spaced eyes and the pointed genal areas (typical of the species) are prominently displayed. A very nice Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kotlukovi is positioned on the right side of the slab. This trilobite is exceptionally symmetrical and very "clean" in appearance. The slightly protruding eyes are clearly defined. Both trilobites have gorgeous, natural coloration and contrast well with the light-colored matrix. They are nicely positioned on the somewhat rectangular block of limestone. This is a very striking specimen of two different trilobites from the Wolchow River.
