Here is a very rare U. S. trilobite. This is Dechenella lucasensis from the Devonian of Ohio. This specimen is from the famous Silica Shale deposits that produce beautiful Phacops specimens. This trilobite was found many years ago and just now prepared. The outstretched bug is inflated and exhibits good detail. The free cheeks are intact and the eyes are easily seen. The trilobite has wonderful, thick exoskeleton. The black color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is well centered on the large (2.5" X 4.5"), natural plate of shale. This is an extremely rare trilobite that may be irreplaceable.
