As everyone knows, complete Mississippian trilobites are rare. At one time, this specimen was part of the DeRosear Collection. This trilobite is a very scarce specimen of Comptonaspis swallowi. This genus has a very smooth carapace - almost totally devoid of any ornamentation. The trilobite is very inflated and exhibits fine detail. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The eyes of the trilobite are easily seen. The fossil has good color and contrast. The bug is well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. There is no restoration or reconstruction on this specimen. This is a very good example of this collectable Mississippian trilobite.
