Name:
Calyptaulax callicephalus Age: Middle Ordovician Formation: Rust Formation, Trenton Group Location: Walcott-Rust Quarry, Trenton Falls, New York Size: Trilobite is 0.6 inches long Price:SOLD
This is an extremely rare US trilobite from a classic site. It is a complete Calyptaulax callicephalus from the famous Walcott-Rust Quarry (WRQ) near Trenton Falls, New York. This type is one of the original trilobites that Charles D. Walcott and James Hall made famous over a century ago! Calyptaulax callicephalus has no genal spines and is much rarer than the similar trilobite, Achatella achates, also found in the quarry. This specimen is complete, with both eyes intact. The trilobite has good detail preserved and is very well articulated. The cephalon is a lighter color, but this color difference is fullt natural. The trilobite is very well displayed on the large limestone plate that also contains two different types of bryozoa and a Ceraurus cephalon. Anyone who knows anything about the history of US trilobites knows how important a Calyptaulax callicephalus from this locality is - it is a rare piece of history. This is a very collectible example of the classic Calyptaulax callicephalus trilobite from New York State.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
